The Jake Gyllenhaal Guide to Pulling Off Pink

The A-list actor is trying new colours this season and you should too

It is very hot right now. Too hot, in all honesty. Sun cream can't be applied quickly enough and there's a good chance that you are about to spend far too much money on a big Dyson fan. And when it comes to dressing, it also stands to reason that you're reaching for the lighter reaches of your wardrobe. We're talking fit, fabric and colour.

It's the latter that we're here to talk about today, because now is the time to inject some brighter, more colourful hues into your rotation. Global warming has destined us to plenty more sweaty summers (someone should really sort that out, don't you think?) and the desire to live in our sartorial comfort zone is no longer an excuse. Need some help? Just look to Jake Gyllenhaal.

JG's known for his subdued dress-sense and leanings with sporty prep. But on this occasion, the A-lister is moving in a new direction.

Whilst watching the French Open in Paris, with his new boo Jeanne Cadieu. (Maybe it was her influence that sparked a wardrobe reset.)

The 42-year-old is embracing some Gosling-esque Kenenergy, wearing a baby pink camp collar shirt offset with navy trousers. While the hue is new for the Gyllenhaal, he's reverted back to his trusty accessories - square-framed sunnies and a Cartier Tank watch - for support.

With thanks to Greta Gerwig's highly anticipated Barbie debut (which despite the seemingly endless chatter, is still not out yet) you can expect to see plenty more pink this summer, and it's the perfect new shade to bring into your shirt rotation.

If you care about being comfortable, even if you're pushing yourself out of your comfort zone, Portuguese Flannel have a camp collar style made of breathable linen, while this striped iteration from Orlebar Brown is 100% cotton. And if pushing the boat out is more your vibe, then Celine's take on a bowling shirt comes in a sizzling hot hue.

Gyllenhaal's dark-shade bottoms provide a natural base for the colourful shirt to take centre stage, and will always help tone down a loud upper half. But remember, this is a time for taking risks, so if you want to take it up a notch, add equally attention-grabbing accessories. Think: an outré pair of shades or neckscarf.
