EastEnders icon Gillian Wright shared the sad news that her beloved dog has died in a heartbreaking social media post shared on Monday morning (June 6).
The 62-year-old, from Bermondsey who plays Jean Slater in the BBC One soap, confirmed her 'soul mate' named Professor Scruff passed away on Wednesday, June 7 more than 12 years after she rescued him.
Taking to Instagram, Gillian shared two photos of her pooch and also a selfie alongside the sweet dog. Next to the snaps, the soap star wrote: "Professor Scruff. 2009/10 - 7th June 2023. Abandoned by a canal, rescued by a dog warden, he found his way to me.

"I've been blessed with this delightful soul mate for 12 yrs.
"Thank you to those who helped me train Scruff, keep him fit & well & those who cared & loved him whilst I was working."
Gillian signed the post off by saying: "His silence now is deafening. Reconfiguring myself moment by moment..."
Her EastEnders co-stars wasted no time in sharing messages for support with Sonia Fowler star Natalie Cassidy writing: "I am so sorry. Sending you love."
Louisa Lytton, who played Ruby Allen on the show, said: "Sending you so much love."
Martin Fowler actor James Bye and his family gushed: "Oh lovely lady. I'm so sorry. sending hugs to you xxxx."
