Series four of Your Home Made Perfect returns on Tuesday 20th June at 8pm on BBC Two, and there's lots to look forward to.
'The biggest change for us has been the inspiration locations,' presenter Angela Scanlon tells House Beautiful UK. 'We've really upped the ante and gone to some amazing places like Segal House, Burgh Island - which is unbelievable - a sky pool in London, a treehouse, and a boathouse. There have been so many more varied inspiration shots and shoots that I think will really help people feel inspired.'
Your Home Made Perfect is a groundbreaking property makeover show with virtual reality and visual effects at its helm. It enables homeowners to 'step into' their newly imagined home in the ultimate 'try before you buy' experience.
Homeowners can instantly explore a stunning transformation of their bedroom, walk around an incredible double-height kitchen, or see how adding a gigantic window will turn a dingy lounge into a show-stopping living room.
In each episode, a family will be presented with two radically different designs by two extraordinary architects, before deciding which to commission and make a reality. The competition has never been fiercer, with the architects pitching some of their most radical designs yet.
Series four will see the team design their first flat, which has never been done before. 'That felt like quite a significant one because there are so many people who live in flats,' Angela tells us. 'It's the actor Jill Halfpenny's flat in Newcastle with a beautiful sea view. Hopefully that will feel quite inspiring for a lot of people.'
As the episode nears towards the end, the final, most important reveal is yet to come - it's time to see what has been built in real life. Angela and the winning architect will visit the finished build. Will the real world reveal match up to the design seen in virtual reality?
Angela Scanlon is the presenter of Your Home Made Perfect. In each episode, Angela reveals two designs to the homeowners using cutting-edge virtual reality, before the winning design is chosen and built in real life.
'My favourite thing about the show is getting to root around in people's homes! And also it's their reactions,' says Angela.
'When I arrive for the reveal and the house has finally been done - and often it's not a straightforward process - and you can just see the difference in how open they are in welcoming you in. They're proud to have people around, and the impact that it makes is that they often become more social because their home is equipped for that.'
Your Home Made Perfect series one first aired in 2019 and kicked off with Angela as host, alongside two innovative architects, Laura Jane Clark and Robert Jamison. The same team returned for series two.
For series three, Angela was joined by a pool of six cutting-edge architects transforming problematic homes into dream abodes with the magic of virtual reality. The same six architects are returning for series four. Get to know them below:
Based in Glasgow, Laura Jane Clark is a hands-on architect who started her career working on building sites. Fearless, and with extraordinary vision, Laura can turn around the impossible - she's even transformed underground public toilets into an extraordinary home.
'The VR reveals are so incredible. It is different to an actual reveal when the homeowners have spent months and months on a building site,' says Laura. 'The VR reveal is like the best dream to have. It's all about possibilities and for me, it is the emotion of the situation that is so moving.'
Julian McIntosh's training has taken him far and wide, starting in Huddersfield, then to China and Spain, and finishing in London. He spent three years at a high end residential London practice designing luxury homes before setting up his own company, Julian McIntosh Architects.
'Gone are the days of black and white architectural plans winning the heart of clients - we must start utilising and harnessing technology to the same level as disruptive industries if we want to survive as a respected profession,' says Julian. 'It's something I'm very passionate about as an architect.'
From Northumberland, Lynsey Elliott is obsessed with detail and practicality - her spaces work perfectly, and look incredible too. Described as 'unassuming and thoughtful', don't underestimate her warm approach; she's determined to win.
'The world of architecture is broad and varied which makes it so interesting but there is a public perception that the industry is inaccessible to smaller scale development, this programme shows that is not the case,' says Lynsey.
A former apprentice blacksmith from Somerset, Will Foster has taken the industry by storm, recognised for his stunning buildings and maverick approach. Sustainability is at the forefront of his design thinking, and he advocates working with local resources and suppliers.
'Growing up in a rural village, I didn't know anything about architecture,' says Will. 'Now with over 20 years in the profession I feel being part of the show allows us architects to demonstrate how design can make a difference to people's everyday lives and make it accessible to everyone.'
Obsessed with stories and passionate about working on existing buildings, Lizzie Fraher is known for her exquisite, intricate designs and believes everyone should have pockets of luxury in their homes. Described as 'painstakingly detailed and highly competitive', Lizzie brings attitude and style to all her projects and is a force to be reckoned with.
'Spaces should be joyful! They should represent who we are, our values, and the show helps demonstrate this,' says Lizzie.
At the age of 21, Damion Burrows was transforming nightclubs in Manchester with outrageous and brilliant sets, and later headed to university to study interior architecture before moving into architecture. Approaching every project with flare and creativity, Damion creates exciting, contemporary homes and his understanding of buildings, inside and out, has led to a fascination of texture and raw materials.
'The British public are already captivated by property and home improvements but this show moved it onto a different level and made it more accessible, more democratic and made everybody feel that they could be part of it and go on a journey with the families in the show,' says Damion.
