Booker T has spoken candidly about his run in TNA Wrestling, and is ashamed that he made a "fool" of himself.

In October 2007, Booker and his wife Sharmell were granted requested releases from WWE, citing pressure he felt in the company and feeling burned out. The following month, Booker would debut in TNA Wrestling at the promotion's Genesis pay-per-view, aiding Sting in a tag-team match with Kurt Angle and Kevin Nash. As part of TNA, Booker would create the Legends Championship and capture the TNA World Tag Team Championships with fellow WCW/WWE alum Scott Steiner. Booker and Sharmell left TNA following the Sacrifice 2009 event, but he did make a one-night return in 2010.

Booker joined TNA Wrestling with a lot of enthusiasm, but this wouldn't last very long. Speaking on his Hall of Fame podcast, the two-time WWE Hall of Famer recalled quickly realizing that what he hoped to achieve in his TNA run was not going to happen.

"I was trying my best to entertain myself in TNA. When I got to TNA, I really had high hopes to really, really be able to capture some moments in that company and after about two weeks, I realized none of that was gonna happen, so I just started acting a fool. I really did.

"I really started acting a fool. I'm actually ashamed of myself for some of the stuff I did in TNA. I really am because I knew it wasn't going anywhere and I lost my zeal for really going out and performing the way I think I always had before that."

Booker added that after realizing that his TNA Wrestling run would not go how he hoped, his mentality shifted to "I'm going to come pick my check-up, I'm going to try to have some fun, and try to create something." Following the end of his TNA Wrestling run, Booker would return to WWE in 2011 as a special entrant in the first-ever 40-Man Royal Rumble match.
