Andrew Scott, star of Fleabag, Sherlock and much more besides, is returning to the West End stage for a very limited time.

Andrew will star in Vanya, a brand new take on the Anton Chekhov play Uncle Vanya, at the Duke of York's Theatre in London's West End for a five-week run this autumn - and in a further twist on the original, he'll be playing every role in the production.

Vanya opens at the Duke of York's Theatre with previews from September 15 ahead of its official opening on September 21. Performances are on Monday to Saturday at 3pm and 7pm, and the last show will be on October 21.

Tickets go on sale from 8.30am on Friday, June 9 via outlets including LOVEtheatre.

This will be Andrew's first theatre role since 2020's Three Kings at the Old Vic.

He is a double Olivier Award winner, most recently winning the Best Actor accolade for his 2019 role in Present Laughter.

"Heartbreaking, hilarious, sexy, devastating - the genius and extraordinary humanity of Mr Chekhov just knocks me out," he said.

"It's a genuine honour and a singular challenge to bring this giant of a play to life in the West End in this new way and I'm so excited to be doing it alongside such brilliant, playful and talented people."

Andrew is teaming up with writer Simon Stephens, who previously worked with him on Sea Wall and Birdland, and director Sam Yates, who worked with him on a short film called The Hope Rooms.

Prior to its West End stint, Vanya will have a short preview run at the Richmond Theatre from August 28 to September 2 with performances starting at 7.30pm - A Little Life was also staged here before it came to the West End.

And the first preview performance at the Duke of York's Theatre on September 15 is exclusively for theatregoers aged under 30. Tickets for this show will cost £10 and application is by ballot, with further details to follow.

Two access performances have been announced - a BSL-interpreted performance on October 3 at 7pm, and an audio-described performance on October 5 at 7pm.
