A smooth, dense and delicious $8 find from Costco, we review the Chateau de Marsan Cadillac Cotes de Bordeaux.

70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Lestiac-sur-Garonne district in Cadillac Cotes de Bordeaux, France. The wine is aged 12 months in French oak barrels.

This wine has an SRP of $18 and is typically available around that price although we found it at Costco for just $7.99. It is imported by Misa Imports.

From the bottle:

Chateau de Marsan carries the name of Pierre de Marsan who was the Viscount of Marsan, founder of the town of Mont-de-Marsan. This beautiful charterhouse was built in 1630 and the estate began producing wine in the 17th century. The property is surrounded by 38 hectares of vineyard planted with 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. The Gonfrier family purchased this property in 1962, extending its vineyards over the coming years. The Chateau de Marsan comprises southwest-facing clayey-gravelly hillsides overlooking the Garonne River. This complete wine is powerful, racy and full of character, with remarkable aromatic complexity. We produce this wine using the method of sustainable agriculture. (High Environmental Value Level 3 Certified).

The 2019 Chateau de Marsan Cadillac Cotes de Bordeaux opens with quite a nice aroma for just 8 bucks! There's dark fruit, some coffee, a little earthiness and a nice little Asian spice streak plus it opens up even more as it has time in the glass.

Tasting the wine reveals it to be smooth and juicy with good density and lots of fine, grippy tannins. Featuring similar flavors to the nose with a little earthiness under the fruit, this is quite delicious after a couple hours of air. It actually still tastes a bit young at this point.

It ends dry, long and savory but maybe not quite as good on day 2.
