Brighton's £35m Alexis Mac Allister Liverpool transfer decision questioned

Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan thinks Brighton should be "disappointed" with the fee they are set to receive for Alexis Mac Allister from Liverpool.

The 24-year-old midfielder was given permission by Albion to undertake his medical on Tuesday after Liverpool and Brighton agreed on a deal, instigated by a clause in the Argentine's contract that he signed in October.

The clause means that Mac Allister could cost as little as £35million - a relatively paltry figure compared to some of Brighton's recent sales to the bigger clubs.

The Seagulls pocketed a combined £77million from Arsenal over the last two seasons for centre-back Ben White and midfielder Leandro Trossard, while Marc Cucurella joined Chelsea for an initial £56million last summer, with Yves Bissouma going to Tottenham Hotspur for £25million - rising to a potential £30million.

World Cup winner Mac Allister has 12 goals and three assists to his name from 40 Brighton appearances this season and Jordan believes his reported price tag does not represent a fair return on the investment put into the midfielder's development by Brighton since he arrived four years ago.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Tuesday morning, Jordan said: "I don't think Brighton have particularly tied him up, have they? What did they achieve (by getting him to sign a new deal)?

"You've got a World Cup winner coming back. They tied him up to be able to give him to Liverpool at a (fee) properly below market value. I imagine (Brighton) will be a little bit disappointed with the situation."

He added: "Because it's happening rather quickly, I thought that we'd got Mac Allister tied up in a situation where someone was going to have to pay top money for him. Top money.

"I'd have wanted more for him. I want these big clubs that come along and take everyone else's vision and don't do it themselves, to have to pay the prerequisite price for it."
