Collingwood star Jordan De Goey is facing a hefty suspension for his bump on West Coast youngster Elijah Hewett during Saturday's match at Optus Stadium.

The midfielder was charged with rough conduct and saw his case sent straight to the AFL Tribunal for a hearing on Tuesday.

The Sporting News explains the fallout after the hit from De Goey.

De Goey's AFL Tribunal case will commence at 4pm (AEST) on Tuesday night.

It is expected to last several hours.

De Goey executed a bump on young Eagle Hewett that struck his opponent high during the first quarter of the Magpies' 63-point win.

Hewett immediately left the field to be diagnosed with concussion and will go into head injury protocols for at least 12 days.

As a result, De Goey was cited by the AFL Match Review panel for rough conduct, graded as careless conduct, severe impact and high contact.

The severity of the gradings means De Goey's charge will be heard directly at the AFL Tribunal, instead of being offered an early plea deal.

Former Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley took exception to comments made about De Goey's bump from West Coast, their midfielder Dom Sheed and fellow pundit Kane Cornes, but conceded the 27-year-old will likely get at least three weeks for the action.

"What are West Coast tweeting about Jordy De Goey (going to the tribunal)? It's none of their business," Buckley told SEN.

"And Dom Sheed saying: 'I've now seen the vision and maybe we should've stood up for him.' None of the players stood up because it wasn't seen as anything outside of a football act.

"Otherwise his teammates would've got over and remonstrated.

"(De Goey) definitely deserves to be up at Tribunal and he'll get the weeks that he deserves. For mine it's a three, but I think the reaction post this incident has been over the top

"I thought it was a football action, it was an instinctive football action. It's one not accepted in the game now. There was no raised elbows or real jumping off the ground.

"You (Cornes) made a comment about you thought it was 'weak.' Yeah, nah, I don't agree with you at all."

Eagles on-baller Sheed sparked part of Buckley's response by stating he would have remonstrated with De Goey and the Magpies star should be banned for a 'month or two'.

"I actually didn't see it (the hit at the time)," Sheed told 6PR Football.

"I kept looking at the big screen and kept missing it. But I heard it was pretty bad. The boys probably didn't respond the way we should've when that happened.

"But watching it back now, I think he deserves a good month or two on the sidelines."
