According to the Country Cob Bakery website, the pie contains: "Fresh Australian Barramundi cooked in homemade mild creamy coconut curry sauce, Chinese broccoli, onion and special spices."
This isn't the first time Country Cob Bakery, run by brothers Chan and Ryan Khun, has taken out the top-pie gong, winning Australia's Best Pie Maker 3 years in a row in 2018, 2019 and 2020.
The pie competition runs for three days, and a team of experienced and well-respected judges at the Baking Association Australia take the time to judge every entry they receive.
"All entries are judged as a cold entry, and then judged again and tasted as a hot entry," says the website. The scores are then combined to find Australia's Best Pie.
But it's not over yet for the Victorian bakery. To ensure they haven't submitted what they call a "show pie" that isn't sold in the bakery. Country Cob Bakery will be mystery-pie-shopped over the next few months to make sure the pie sold in-store is the same pie that was sent to be judged.
