Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Player Regrets Overthinking Lynel Fight, Ends in Disaster

One The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom player has recently taken to social media to share a cautionary tale of overthinking a Lynel fight to the point of regretful disaster. The footage of their too-clever strategy emerged online mere days after another Tears of the Kingdom clip showed the importance of fire safety.

While the latest Zelda game offers a wide variety of new mechanics that build on the Breath of the Wild formula, few are as impactful as Ultrahand, an ability that lets Link create a swath of custom structures and vehicles. Countless players have consequently been flocking online to share their impressive creations such as Tears of the Kingdom Batmobiles and attack drones since the game's May 12 release.

And though Ultrahand lends itself well to out-of-the-box problem-solving like beating Tears of the Kingdom's temples without a paraglider, not all overengineered solutions are created equal. This was most recently underlined by Reddit user Vpeyjilji57, who ended up constructing an elaborate laser tank equipped with Zonai Beam Emitters and an auto-targeting system, all in an effort to tackle one Lynel. The contraption worked well enough for a bit, but this crafty approach still ended in disaster after the vehicle was hit by lightning, which finished off Vpeyjilji57's heavily wounded Link.

And while a few fans reacting to this unsuccessful attempt at downing a Lynel chose to mock its convoluted strategy, others praised its author's engineering skills, positing that the disastrous outcome of the fight was simply a result of bad luck. Some of them argued that repeating this approach in better weather would have likely allowed Vpeyjilji57 to emerge triumphant while saving a lot of weapon durability in the process.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom players eager to put this theory to the test should find that Vpeyjilji57's contraption is, for the most part, not too difficult to build. The targeting mechanism is its only potential head-scratcher, but that's only because the game isn't quick to explain that activated Zonai Construct Heads will always look toward enemies. Attaching ranged weapons to these objects will hence result in a variety of cannons that automatically lock onto hostile mobs.

Finally, since Beam Emitters don't do a lot of damage, Vpeyjilji57's even had the foresight to attach Construct Heads to their wheels, which allowed their vehicle to easily maneuver around the Lynel. And while this particular attempt at overthinking a Lynel fight ended in disaster, that's largely because its author was yet to learn-or perhaps forgot-that there are ways not to get electrocuted during a thunderstorm in Tears of the Kingdom.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available now on Nintendo Switch.
