A step towards increasing workshops and getting more people involved was the aim of a special sewing day on Saturday at the Shedders and Fixers in Wisbech.
Held at the Shedders and Fixers headquarters at the Secret Garden Touring Park in Miletree Road the sewing workshop run by expert Debbie Gair saw seven people learn how to get more out of their sewing machines.
Sally Tabor, secretary of the Shedders and Fixers, explained the workshop was the first to be held in the newly refurbished crafts area, but she said there is more to come.
The aim is to get more people from across the community involved in crafts, woodwork and even welding.
At present the shed is open three mornings a week, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. But the aim is to be open more and offer more workshops and sessions once membership allows.
Sally said Saturday's event proved great fun and everyone learned a whole lot more about their machines than they did before.
She said: "I've had my sewing machine for over 30 years but it has largely just sat in a cupboard because I didn't really know how to use it. Debbie was extremely patient with us all and taught us so much, I think people went away more confident in how to use their sewing machines.
"We hope this will be the first of many workshops, and that more people will get involved. It is open to everyone who is interested, but we will be limiting numbers to eight per workshop because that ensures people can get one to one support.
"The Shedders and Fixers has a fantastic space at the Secret Garden so it will be great to make more use of it - so it is a question of watch this space for future events."
