Got any plans this summer? How about a stadium show of cathartic sing-alongs with Foo Fighters and some kick-ass support acts?

Dave Grohl and co. were due to return to Australia before the tragic death of drummer Taylor Hawkins up-ended their world. But now, fresh from the release of their new album But Here We Are, the Foos are once again making good on that promise.

The group will hit our shores from November, taking in massive shows in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane before jetting over to New Zealand.

Foo Fighters were in Australia last year, where they played a one-off show at Geelong's Kardinia Park. It was among their last with Taylor Hawkins, a charismatic, crucial part of the band that Grohl called his "spirit animal" and "best friend".

Following his death, it wasn't so much a question of if Foo Fighters would continue, but how. Especially given the compounded feelings of grief after Grohl's mother, Virginia Hanlon Grohl, also passed away last year.

Those losses shape But Here We Are, the band's 11th studio album, making it arguably their most significant release. But more surprisingly, it's also their best in ages, sounding more vital than they have in over a decade.

That's going to make this upcoming Australian tour particularly poignant, and you can expect both band and audience are going to be channelling those titanic riffs and choruses to blast the pain away.

It's their 14th visit to Australia but their first with new drummer Josh Freese, a seasoned studio professional who has toured and recorded with everyone from Nine Inch Nails and Weezer to Katy Perry, A Perfect Circle, Miley Cyrus and countless more.

Joining Foo Fighters on these shows is a really strong set of support line-ups.

Opening at select shows will be pub-punk favourites The Chats, former Unearthed High winning Adelaide duo Teenage Joans, young Canberra firestarters Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers, and making the trip over from Manchester, Hot Milk.
