During her appearance as a guest on Sherri Shepherd's talk show today, the typically objective journalist Elizabeth Vargas was not shy in voicing her disapproving opinion about a photo used to promote her new show.
Vargas appeared on Sherri to promote her NewsNation series, Elizabeth Vargas Reports, but when a press photo used to promote the show appeared onscreen behind her, she quickly asked Shepherd to remove it from view.
"I look like I just woke up," Vargas told Shepherd, per Entertainment Weekly. "Can we please get that shot off? I hate that shot. They got me out of bed and put a dress on me and said, 'Fold your arms.'"
While the image used on Shepherd's show features Vargas with a serious expression on her face, other variations of the photo have circulated to promote the series and feature a smiling Vargas.
While Vargas disapproved of the photo, Shepherd tried to make her guest feel better about it by telling her, "When I looked at that, I was like, 'You look formidable.'"
The rest of Vargas's interview with Shepherd was amiable, with both of them sharing memories of Barbara Walters, who worked alongside Shepherd on The View, and who was Vargas's colleague at ABC News. Vargas would succeed Walters to become co-host of 20/20.
When a photo of Vargas, Walters and John Stossel appeared behind Vargas as she spoke about 20/20, she did take a self-deprecating dig at herself, exclaiming, "Oh God, my hair! Helmet head! Why didn't somebody pull me aside and help me?"
