The future of Man Utd and Tottenham target, Dani Olmo, has been determined, with the RB Leipzig attacker choosing who he'll play for next season after putting pen to paper.
The 25-year-old Spain international is one of the most influential forwards in the Bundesliga. Olmo bagged 15 goals and assists combined in 30 matches for Leipzig this term. His versatility also allows him to operate on either flank or in central positions such as No 10 or false nine.
Olmo's current contract in Germany is due to expire at the end of the 2023/24 campaign. Per Sky Germany, the thought of losing such a valuable asset for nothing 12 months from now was unpalatable in the extreme for Leipzig.
As such, Leipzig set about preparing a do or die offer for Olmo towards the end of the season. Failure to find a breakthrough would result in Olmo being sold this summer, according to BILD.
The German publication claimed Olmo's next step could be the Premier League. Indeed, both Man Utd and Tottenham were said to have made enquiries into a move.
In the event Olmo was given the greenlight to leave, Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg claimed a deal could be had for just ?30m (approx. £26m).
However, according to Fabrizio Romano, Leipzig's final throw of the dice has resulted in the breakthrough they so desperately craved.
The transfer guru tweeted Dani Olmo "has signed" a new contract to extend his stay in Leipzig until 2027.
The development was labelled "huge" for Leipzig who would've been backed into a corner had the Spaniard snubbed their final offer. Instead, it's Man Utd and Tottenham who must now look elsewhere.
But while Olmo is certain to be playing in Leipzig next season, the inclusion of a fairly modest release clause means his long-term future is far from assured.
Indeed Spanish journalist Bruno Alemany reported Olmo's new deal has come with the compromise of a ?60m (approx. £52m) release clause.
Romano backed up Alemany's reporting when citing that same number. ?60m is the same mark Christopher Nkunku's release clause was set at which did little to deter Chelsea.
But while Nkunku will line up at Stamford Bridge next season, Olmo will be remaining in Germany for a little while longer yet.
