Former President Donald Trump, the leading Republican candidate for the 2024 presidential election, disclosed a new policy pledge to end birthright citizenship for illegal immigrants and "birth tourism."

This policy proposal was revealed in one of his Agenda 47 videos.

In the video, Trump asserts his plan to secure the border and emphasizes that on the first day of his second term, he will sign an executive order clarifying that the children of illegal immigrants will no longer receive automatic U.S. citizenship.

According to Trump, birthright citizenship acts as an incentive for future illegal immigration attempts.

Trump criticizes President Joe Biden's immigration policies, referring to them as an "illegal foreign invasion" that allows a record number of illegal border crossers to enter the country.

"Joe Biden has launched an illegal foreign invasion of our country, allowing a record number of illegal aliens to storm across our borders,"

Under the current policies, these individuals' future children would become automatic U.S. citizens, making them eligible for various benefits, including welfare, taxpayer-funded healthcare, and the right to vote.

Trump views this policy as a reward for breaking U.S. laws and argues it serves as a magnet, attracting millions of illegal immigrants.

He believes ending birthright citizenship will deter further illegal immigration attempts, encourage those who entered unlawfully to return to their home countries, and eliminate a significant incentive for unauthorized immigration.

Trump highlights that the United States is among the few countries granting automatic citizenship to illegal immigrants' children, regardless of their parent's status.

However, Trump claims that the case for birthright citizenship is built on a misinterpretation of the law, referring to it as a "historical myth."

According to him, open borders advocates have intentionally misinterpreted the law to support this policy.

Additionally, Trump vows to address "birth tourism," where individuals from other countries travel to the United States to give birth so their children can acquire U.S. citizenship.

His executive order would require at least one parent to be either a U.S. citizen or legally residing in the country to qualify for birthright citizenship.

Trump strongly opposes the practice of "birth tourism," describing it as a means for hundreds of thousands of people to obtain U.S. citizenship illegitimately and exploit chain migration to bring their family members into the country.

He deems this practice both horrible and egregious and intends to end it.

Under his proposed executive order, citizenship would only be granted if one parent is a citizen or legal resident.

According to Trump, implementing these policies would contribute to border security, discourage illegal immigration, and rectify what he perceives as an incorrect interpretation of the law.
