Former England and Liverpool striker Peter Crouch has sent his congratulations to Sheffield Wednesday after their promotion - and an unexpected 'appearance' at the post-match celebrations.

The Owls ended a two-year absence from the Championship with a hard-fought but ultimately deserved win over their South Yorkshire rivals.

Josh Windass popped up with a last-gasp header to avoid the saga of penalties and send Darren Moore's men up. Social media has been awash with celebration pictures and videos in the wake of the Wembley win.

But one person you perhaps weren't expecting to pop up in amongst the Wednesdayites was Crouch.

A Wednesday fan posted a tweet with a cardboard cut-out of the 42-year-old, with an Owls shirt and scarf to boot. It has been viewed more than 200,000 times and the man himself got in on the act.

Crouch wrote: "Congratulations SWFC. I had a great day (eyes emoji)."

Moore's men can now look forward to what is a strong second tier next term, with the likes of Leeds United, Leicester City, Sunderland and Norwich City.

The fixtures are released on June 22.
