A man accused of murdering Adelaide mother Louise Hughes has walked free from court after charges against him were dropped.

Ms Hughes died at a house on Condada Avenue at Park Holme in September last year, despite efforts to resuscitate her by emergency services.

Lee Paul Streng, 34 was arrested shortly after and charged with her murder.

Last week, Mr Steng's lawyer Stacey Carter asked for his charges to be dismissed because of an inconclusive post moterm report.

"I am in possession of the current pathologist report and it would be very hard to substantiate any charge of murder against Mr Streng based on what I've read," Ms Carter said.

"One of the possible outcomes of the report is that the victim's level of intoxication on its own - potentially could be one of the causes of death."

Outside of court today Inspector Detective Mark McEachern said her death was still being investigated, and would not rule out any re-arrests.

"We understand the reasons why the matter has been withdrawn, so Ms Hughes' death remains an unsolved homicide death investigation and it will be," he said.

"The case will be subject to a full review and further investigation and that could take several months."

Ms Hughes' sister Mardi Webber said the family has been devastated since her death.

"We just have faith in the police that they will do the right thing by us and for my sister, she's the one suffering," Ms Webber said outside of court.
