From now on, one of IndyCar's greats will never have to wonder why he's not been able to win the Indianapolis 500.
In his 12th attempt, two-time IndyCar Series winner Josef Newgarden finally broke through in a race that will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the wildest 200-lap events ever.
In a thrilling finish to the 107th running of the famed race, Newgarden passed Chip Ganassi Racing's Marcus Ericsson in an unprecedented one-lap dash.

After three red flag interventions, the cars rolled off the pit lane with two laps to go to take the green and white flag simultaneously.
Newgarden couldn't pass Ericsson into turn one, but by turn three moved his way into the lead with a
Weaving left and right down the front straight, Newgarden broke the tow of Ericsson and by the chequered flag clinched victory by a mere 0.0974s.
It was an emotional win for Newgarden, who parked his car on the yard of bricks and climbed through the fence to celebrate with the crowd.
"I'm just so thankful to be here, you have no idea," said Newgarden.
"I started out as a fan in the crowd and this place - it's amazing. Regardless of where you're sitting, it doesn't matter if you're driving the car, you're working on it, or you're out there in the crowd, you're a part of this event and the energy, so thank you Indianapolis.
"I love this city. I grew up racing karts here when I was a kid. I'm just so thankful for Roger (Penske, team boss) and Tim (Cindric, team president) and everybody at Team Penske.
"I just felt like everyone kept asking me why I haven't won this race. They look at you like you're a failure if you don't win it and I wanted to win it so bad. I knew we could. I knew we were capable. I'm so glad to be here."
