Sitting in the exit row of a plane can be very tempting if you want to have extra space, but it does come with a lot of responsibility. Of course, chances are high that you won't have to be the one to open it so that people are able to get out safely in an emergency, but you should be prepared to do it if you select that seat. The survival of your fellow passengers is in your hands!
We'd be lying if we said we wondered what would happen if the exit door opened mid-flight... not that it's an experiment we'd ever conduct ourselves. But now, we finally have the answer to that question, thanks to this scary TikTok video shared by @abcnews.

In the video, we can clearly see that the door is wide open, with air blowing into the cabin. Apparently, a passenger opened the door during the flight in South Korea, and although the plane was able to land safely, 12 people did get injured in the process.
The outlet reported that other passengers did try to stop the person before they opened the door, but ultimately weren't able to. So far, the reason they opened the door hasn't been released.
When the plane landed, the person who opened the door was detained, and could end up being charged with violating aviation security, which may come with a jail sentence up to 10 years.
This looks like it was terrifying, but it's good to hear that the plane was able to land. Let this be a lesson to everyone: Opening that door mid-flight simply isn't worth it.
