A fundraiser started by Luton Town fans intended to thank ticket office staff for their hard work and dedication over the last decade has reached more than ten times its original target.

The GoFundMe page, created by Luton fan Mark Griffiths, was created with the intention of raising £500, so that ticket office staff 'would not have to spend a penny' on Saturday, May 27, when Luton face Coventry City at Wembley. After overwhelming support and donations from fans, the total has now reached more than £5,000 in less than four days.

The club's staff have been under intense pressure since tickets went on sale for the final last Thursday (May 18). Luton Town sold out their allocation of 36,500 seats with four days to spare before the fixture.

The fundraiser has received more than 380 individual donations, including a number of large sums of money. One act of generosity that has caught Luton fan's eyes is a £500 donation by a Robert Edwards, with fans believing that is in fact the club's manager of the same name.

Organiser Mark Griffiths provided an update on the GoFundMe page about the generosity of fans, he said: "This has grown way above where we could have expected!! This was started to say thank you for some of the unreal levels of customer service that has been received from the team over the last decade.

"Personally have had so many issues solved, tickets organised very late on and acts of kindness I wouldn't expect to have received as just an average fan. Clearly not alone in this given the unbelievable support.

"I'm positive that all the staff around the club have given endless hours over the last decade but personally believe the Ticket office are an absolute asset to the club and town. Will close this off tomorrow but on behalf of Luton Loyal Supporters Club, thanks for supporting - COYH"

The hard work of the ticket office over the past week has also been recognised by the club. Luton Town took to Twitter to post a video of Manager Rob Edwards personally thanking staff for their efforts.

Luton Town face Coventry City at Wembley on Saturday May 27 in the Championship playoff final. More than 35,000 Luton fans are expected to be heading to Wembley.
