Celebrity relationships with nannies don't always end well. We've seen several instances of nannies losing their jobs, and then filling lawsuits.

The Beckhams for example, were forced into firing their nanny after it was revealed that she was leaking information to the press. Tom Cruise got around this, and had his nanny sign an NDA during his time with Nicole Kidman.

As for Robert De Niro, the actor was paying his nanny both regular and overtime pay. However, it seems like the overtime pay was problematic, and it caused a lawsuit worth thousands.

We'll reveal other celebs that went to court with their nanny, while taking a closer look at De Niro's situation and the verdict that ended up taking place behind closed doors.

We're seen more than a few instances of a celebrity nanny suing their former employer. That was the case with Maria Burgues, who was Mariah Carey's former nanny. Burgues made much less than De Niro's nanny, earning $25 per hour.

Maria Burgues launched a lawsuit after she wasn't given overtime pay by the artist, despite hours of traveling with the family. The former nanny also took exception to the working conditions and her disgruntled relationship with Carey's bodyguard.

"Carey's children had a bodyguard, Marcio Moto, who routinely yelled at Burgues and made her feel threatened," Variety writes.

"In December 2017, Burgues claims that they were all driving to Las Vegas together, and Moto started yelling at Burgues and threatened to kick her out of the car and leave her by the road. She complained about the incident, but says nothing was done."

Jennifer Lopez is another celeb that was going through nanny troubles, however her situation didn't go to court. Lopez was apparently offering a premium of $2,250 a week. However, given the crazy demand and hours per week, nannies kept dropping off at a weekly rate. It seems like Lopez's demands were a little too much for the nannies to handle.

Back in 2009, Today reported that former nanny Alexis Barry filed a lawsuit against De Niro for unpaid wages. Alexis was making $31 an hour, which also included an overtime rate of $46.88.

According to Today, De Niro missed payments on over 750 hours of overtime work, along with the fact that his nanny never took vacation days.

Today writes, "Alexis Barry says in court papers that she was never paid for more than 750 hours of overtime and never took 10 vacation days. She began working for De Niro and his wife, Grace Hightower, in August 2006, and says she was fired 10 months later - after she said she was going to quit. The couple have an 11-year-old son."

At the time of the lawsuit, De Niro's team refused to make a statement, wanting to read the details of the lawsuit. Usually, these types of lawsuits get dismissed privately, however, this particular lawsuit was resolved, and it ended with Robert De Niro having to pay up for the unpaid wages.

In January of 2011, Independent revealed that an outcome was reached between Robert De Niro and the former family nanny. De Niro was finally ordered to pay $30,000, which was $10K under what was being asked for by the nanny.

According to the publication, the details of the settlement were kept private.

"Manhattan Supreme Court in New York awarded the settlement, but released a stipulation forbidding either party discussing the case."

"The stipulation said: "The parties will keep the terms of this settlement confidential, as well as any matter related to Barry's employment."

Recently welcoming his seventh child, we assume De Niro is getting all the help he can these days. However, the actor did reveal alongside ET Canada that he puts in the work with his kids, even if it means having to be stern at times.

"I mean, there's no way around it with kids. I don't like to have to lay down the law and stuff like that. But, [sometimes] you just have no choice," he explained. "And any parent, I think, would say the same thing. You always want to do the right thing by the children and give them the benefit of the doubt but sometimes you can't."

He continues, "You know, my kids disagree with me at times, and they're respectful. My daughter, she's 11, she gives me grief sometimes and I argue with her. I adore her, but, you know. And my youngest now, that'll be more to come. But, that's what it is."

Clearly, De Niro has his hands full both at work and at home.
