Skyrim Fan Decides to Send Lydia on Her Own Side Quest

There are so many side quests in Skyrim that it can feel a little overwhelming to take them all on, so one fan decided that Lydia of Whiterun should take on the responsibility of at least one of these missions. While The Elder Scrolls 5 is very well known for its high-fantasy action, what with all that dragon slaying, it is also possible for gamers to build a second digital life, becoming a more hedonistic Dragonborn. However, that's not what most people play the 2011 RPG for.

With so much to do in the game, players can easily spend hundreds of hours milling about this Tamriel province, almost happening upon small stories and missions by accident. While a lot of the content is enjoyable, it's no secret that Skyrim has its fair share of frustrating quests, one of which is the infamous "The Break of Dawn." In this side story, players who pick up a mysterious beacon are commanded by the booming voice of the Daedric Prince Meridia, and the artifact is unable to be dropped until this particular journey is complete.

That could be why Reddit user FLYSWATTER_93 decided that Lydia should be the one to do this Skyrim quest instead. In a joke clip uploaded to the site, the player can be seen opening a chest, which contains the aforementioned beacon. They immediately back out and turn to their faithful follower, instructing her to take all the items from the chest. After Lydia reaches her destination, a somewhat muffled version of Meridia's voice can be heard: "A new hand touches the beacon." This insinuates that Lydia is the one who picked up the beacon, and now she must carry the burden of obeying the Prince's wishes. It should be stated that the clip has been edited and is only intended as a bit of humor. Unfortunately, it's the Dragonborn themselves who will have to complete "The Break of Dawn" if they pick up the item.

Of all the followers and companions in Skyrim, Lydia is probably the most well known, largely because she's typically the first one that players get in their employ. She is steadfast in her loyalty towards the Dragonborn, also known as "Thane," and over the years, she has become an integral part of many people's playthroughs.

With The Elder Scrolls 6 currently in development, though few people have any idea when the follow-up will actually come out, fans are anticipating where the long-running Bethesda series will go from here. It's hard to say whether Skyrim will be left behind once the next game comes out, but for now, TES5 remains a constant source of entertainment for many.

The Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim: Anniversary Edition is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
