Newcastle United are "likely" to make an early bid for James Maddison in the summer transfer window.
The attacking midfielder is set to leave Leicester City in the coming weeks, regardless of whether the club are playing their football in the Premier League or the Championship.
A whole host of clubs have been linked with interest in the 26-year-old, with Manchester City, Tottenham and Arsenal among the Premier League clubs named. But after having two bids for Maddison rejected last summer, it could be Newcastle who try to make it third time lucky.

According to the Telegraph, it is likely that Newcastle will make an early bid for Maddison, although the Magpies will "want firm assurances" that Maddison is serious about playing for them and not using them to "flush out bids" from other interested teams.
There is also an update on Newcastle's interest in Leicester midfielder Youri Tielemans, who is out of contract this summer. They say Tielemans is not a player Eddie Howe is looking to sign in this window.
Newcastle have also previously been linked with City's Harvey Barnes, though it is unclear whether they are likely to make a bid for him this summer.
