Hyperthyroidism is a condition in which there is overproduction of the thyroxine hormone by the thyroid gland. This condition can lead to an acceleration of the body's metabolism, causing unintentional weight loss, increased appetite, nervousness, irritability, anxiety, tremors, sweating, muscle weakness, skin thinning, brittle hair, menstrual pattern changes, and rapid or irregular heartbeat. Antithyroid medications, radioactive iodine is used to slow down the production of thyroid hormones. Sometimes surgery may be needed to remove all or part of the thyroid gland. If hyperthyroidism is left untreated then it can cause tachycardia, atrial fibrillation, stroke, congestive heart failure, osteoporosis, swollen eyes, vision loss. It can also cause thyrotoxic crisis which is a sudden intensification of symptoms leading to fever, delirium, tachycardia which is a medical emergency.

Hyperthyroidism is a condition in which there is a hyperfunction of the thyroid gland, with an exaggerated production of its hormones. It is usually very symptomatic, with a general increase in metabolism, with restlessness, irritability, rapid heartbeat, sweating, weight loss and weakness. These symptoms do not improve without treatment, which can be medical or surgical. When not treated properly and persistently, it can evolve with some complications such as cardiac arrhythmias, high output heart failure and stroke due to an increased predisposition to clots.

If untreated, hyperthyroidism can lead to atrial fibrillation, which can result in stroke and heart failure. Problems with the eyes are also a significant issue for the disease. They can turn red, bulge, and become dry. There is a possibility of developing a Thyrotoxic crisis. The patient may experience tachycardia, fever, and even delirium in this case. Patients' skin may become red and swollen, and they may develop osteoporosis. Women may experience menstrual cycle and fertility issues.
