Kansas City has a longstanding tradition with both the Chiefs and the Royals, a sports town with a lot of history.
It is also home to the Negro Leagues Museum, and Sporting Kansas City, along with the KC Current, have both garnered a strong following as of late.
Despite their already flourishing sports teams, Patrick Mahomes has recently suggested that the city could use another professional team.
As Mahomes indicates, he would like the Arizona Coyotes to move to Kansas City, becoming the Kansas City Coyotes.
This would bring a hockey team to the city, which would be Kansas City's second attempt at an NHL franchise.
The first opportunity was with the Scouts, which played in Kansas City from 1974-1976.
After the Scouts' two seasons in the NHL, the team moved to Denver, then ultimately became what we know as the New Jersey Devils.
Whether Mahomes' wish will come true remains to be seen.
The Coyotes' current ownership has continuously stated that they would like to stay in Arizona, even after being rejected for a new arena in Tempe.
As for the 2023-2024 season, the Coyotes have signed another contract to play at Mullett Arena.
Mullett Arena is home to the Arizona State Sun Devils, which takes precedence over the Coyotes games.
Kansas City isn't necessarily known to be a hockey town, as they were unable to support the Scouts.
It appears that the state of Arizona doesn't want to embrace the sport either, based on their recent rejection of the Coyotes.
