A ski resort in Southeastern Michigan will be getting its second high-speed chairlift.

Mt. Holly Resort announced that they will be replacing Chair 6, a Hall triple chairlift that is located on the backside. Chair 6 operated from 1975 to 2023. Its successor will be the Lightning Express, a high-speed quad chairlift that's being supplied by Leitner-Poma. This will make Mt. Holly the only Southeastern Michigan ski resort with two high-speed chairlifts.

So far, the parts to the new chairlift have started to arrive, but construction hasn't commenced yet. An opening date hasn't been announced, but it seems likely that it will open during the 2023-24 season.

If you're wondering why a ski resort with only a 350-foot vertical drop is getting another high-speed lift, it comes down to Mt. Holly's location. The ski resort is only located less than an hour outside of Downtown Detroit. This means that significant uphill capacity is needed. I think this is a great move by Mt. Holly, one that will keep it as one of the most beloved ski resorts in the state of Michigan.
