Skyrim Player Kills Grelod the Kind With a Piece of Cheese

Perhaps in a bid to add a little humor to the game or maybe to show off the wonky physics, a Skyrim player decided to complete the opening Dark Brotherhood quest by killing Grelod the Kind with projectile cheese. Given that The Elder Scrolls 6 is still a long way off, gamers are keeping themselves amused with Bethesda's 2011 entry in its long-running fantasy series. Sometimes this means coming up with unique ways of murdering NPCs.

Of course, the base game alone still offers a lot to do, giving players hours of entertainment. One such example is the number of factions and guilds that the Dragonborn can be part of. A popular one to join is the Elder Scrolls' Dark Brotherhood, a band of lowlifes and murderers who are tasked with ensuring that targets meet their makers. For those who like their quests to be a little bloodier, this is the ideal path to go down, offering players the chance to do away with unwanted people. However, contracts do not always necessitate a gory death.

Reddit user odggodly recently uploaded a brief clip from their Skyrim playthrough in which they were tasked with killing Grelod the Kind, the feared headmistress of Honorhall Orphanage in Riften. However, rather than stabbing her or brutally ending her life with an axe, the player decides to pick up a piece of cheese that's by her feet. Once thrown, it hits Grelod with such force that it actually kills her, thus completing the mission. Others commenting in the Reddit thread agree that this is a rather unique, and amusing, way of completing this first Brotherhood contract.

For some reason, Skyrim fans are obsessed with cheese, whether it's using a piece to off a character or seeing how much they can pile up before the game crashes. Given that these dairy products can be found pretty much anywhere in a settlement, despite not really having much use outside of Survival Mode, players have clearly taken it upon themselves to find something to do with them.

It's things like this that explain why Skyrim has lasted for more than a decade and is still as popular today as when it released. The modding community has also been doing its part for the epic RPG's longevity by releasing plenty of custom content, not to mention Bethesda re-releasing the title every new generation. However, there's also something to be said for players just having a little bit of fun with things, such as firing otherwise harmless food items at unsuspecting NPCs.

The Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim: Anniversary Edition is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
