Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas lost his mother when he was just nine years old, but ESPN didn't hold back from asking about her during Mother's Day.
"I know your mom passed away when you were young," Karl Ravech awkwardly said on ESPN "Sunday Night Baseball" while Casas was mic'd up during Boston's 9-1 loss to the Cardinals Sunday night. (Casas' younger brother, Gavin, is a 22-year-old first baseman himself for the South Carolina Gamecocks. )
"What does Mother's Day mean to you and your brother?" Ravech continued.

"Yeah, uh - what happened was obviously unfortunate for me," Casas, 23, responded, with his voice cracking.
"But I have had so many mother figures in my life. Whether they have my last name or whether they don't, I have so much support from everyone in and around my circle that I don't even feel like I missed out on anything.
"I know she's watching me everyday, I know she's smiling, proud of me, but for the most part, I think I've been alight."
The question was clearly difficult for Casas to talk about, especially in the middle of a game.
Thankfully for Casas, the ball wasn't hit in his direction as Ravech mentioned his diseased mother.
The star first baseman is off to a dismal start this season from the plate, hitting just .192 with five home runs.
The Sox have a winning record at 22-19, though that is still last place in the tough AL East.
