It was a evening of sun and stars as the best of British TV gathered at London's Royal Festival Hall for the 2023 Bafta TV Awards.

This year saw a healthy crop of A-listers arrive, led by Kate Winslet who took home two awards for her leading role in I Am Ruth. She also paved the all-black-everything style that swept the red carpet, opting for a simple knee-length asymmetric body-con dress. Altogether more goth girl was Bad Sisters' Sharon Horgan, who looked spectacular in a black sheer gown from The Vampire's Wife, and Bridgerton's Golda Rosheuvel, who was bewitching in a black sheer caped Carolina Herrera gown, completed with crystal encrusted bustier.

Others opted for high drama. In particular, Billie Piper, who quite literally dazzled in a cobalt blue sequined catsuit (complete with gloves and heels) from London-based designer Richard Quinn. Also turning heads was Daisy May Cooper, who jumped on the all pink barbiecore trend which, against all odds, powers forth, while Vick Hope dazzled in a green, beaded gown by New York label Cucculelli Shaheen. Dannii Minogue - who has returned to the spotlight hosting the new gay dating show I Kissed a Boy - wore a billowing mustard dress complete with a waistband corsage, but prize for best dressed might well have been won by Cush Jumbo, the Hamlet actor who looked ethereal in a pale yellow and silver embellished Erdem gown,  finished with a white sheer cape and opera gloves.

There was one hue which dominated last night, however: ruby red. Emma Willis was the picture of sleek in her red, knit panelled Alexander McQueen dress, while red carpet host Clara Amfo opted for a ribboned peplum corset and cascading skirt by upcoming London-based label Maximilian Raynor. Nicôle Lecky, who took home a Bafta for writing hit series Mood, wore a tight-fit gown with floor length statement sleeves, while Made In Chelsea's Georgia Toffolo looked whimsical in a Rodarte red satin dress with a white lace body-piece and leg-o-mutton sleeves.

As for the boys, the bar stayed high. Classic suits with a twist came from The White Lotus' Will Sharpe, who wore a custom black Fendi outfit with extra wide lapels and cowboy boots - a look not dissimilar to Cillian Murphy's, who also opted for boots and all black. More traditional in black tie and white shirts were Taron Egerton, Damian Lewis and Sir Mo Farah.
