Skyrim Mod Takes Influences From Tomb Raider, Dragon Age

For any Skyrim fans who want to tap into what it would be like to be a Lara Croft-style explorer in a fantasy realm, the modding community has it covered with a recent mod that takes cues from Tomb Raider, as well as Dragon Age. Since releasing over 11 years ago, The Elder Scrolls 5 has left quite the impact on open-world games, with its setting, deep lore that spreads across the whole series, and a sense of adventure that keeps players hooked for hours.

It's by no means a perfect game, of course, which is why modders continue to release custom content for Skyrim, whether it's graphical improvements, changes to some of the gameplay, or just new things to discover. Anyone who plays Bethesda's 2011 epic, especially on PC, knows the value of installing mods, even if it's just a small tweak here and there. However, there are those that come about which are not only quite ambitious, but take influence from other franchises as well.

Nexus Mods user Everglaid recently uploaded "Sirenroot - Deluge of Deceit," a dialog-heavy mod for Skyrim that has been inspired by Tomb Raider and Dragon Age. The mod's custom story tasks players with exploring the ruins at the bottom of Lake Honrich, located southwest of Riften. The "Sirenroot" mod not only features voice acting, numbering around 1,000 lines, but also puzzles, platforming, and a particular "focus on water mechanics." A trailer shows off some of the new dialog that fans will encounter and gives brief insight into what can be expected. The description says the story is around 2-5 hours long and also features cutscenes, the ability to climb, and unique NPCs.

The original Tomb Raider helped pioneer early 3D games back in the 1990s while also introducing the world to Lara Croft, who quickly became one of the most influential female protagonists in all of gaming. Given such a legacy, it's not surprising that people like Everglaid are still taking inspiration from it, turning the Dragonborn into a puzzle-solving adventurer keen on salvaging ancient artifacts and secrets.

A similar legacy is also one of the reasons TES5 is still going strong to this day. Along with the modding community, Skyrim players can also do speedruns of the game, take part in a number of other challenges, or just do different playthroughs of the vanilla experience. The 2011 epic RPG may have aged over the years, but it's clearly still a major part of the industry if modders are still eager to release custom content for it.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim - Anniversary Edition is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
