With summer getting closer, and the weather hopefully getting warmer, it hopefully won't be long until we can all be out making the most of the sunshine. Of course, one thing which is always improved with some good weather is a trip to the pub.

Cosy nights by log fires with a glass of red wine in hand are great, but long afternoons spent with friends and family with a cold drink are second to none. Last year The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) unveiled their list of the best pubs in the country, including 66 in Dorset.

The Good Beer Guide might focus its attention on the best pints, but there is plenty more on offer. The list also includes 16 new additions compared to last year.

It is also the 50th edition of the best-selling beer bible published by The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) which showcases the very best places to sip a cool beer in the UK. CAMRA has reviewed pubs based on the quality of their real ales every year since 1971.

The book surveyed more than 4,500 pubs across Britain as the editorial aims to be a passport to discovering the best watering holes in each area. Following a difficult, and in some cases damaging, past two years for pubs and the rest of the hospitality industry, not least due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the guide encourages readers to support their local pubs and breweries.

The South West has once again been recognised as one of the UK's best regions overall. CAMRA chairman Nik Antona said: "For nearly five decades, the Good Beer Guide has been a comprehensive guide to the UK's breweries, their ales, and the best outlets to find them in across the country.

"The Good Beer Guide has always had an important role in acting as a barometer of the beer and pub industry. We believe information gleaned from the Guide is absolutely vital in the drive to save our pubs from closure and campaign for policies that better support pubs, local brewers and their customers.

"Whilst we experienced a boom in the brewing industry over recent years, it's clear that the effects of COVID-19 and subsequent cost of living and cost of goods crisis has been keenly felt. I'd encourage everyone to use this Guide to seek out the very best examples of pub excellence and support these locals by visiting them."
