With a history of starring in iconic roles such as Tomorrow, When the War Began and Home And Away, it comes as no surprise that Ashleigh Cummings is making waves now in Hollywood with her new role in Citadel.
Prime Video's new series has taken the entertainment industry by storm as it reinvents the very definition of spy-action thrillers with protagonists Kyle Conroy (Richard Madden) and Nadia Sinh (Priyanka Chopra).
"[They] had a vision to create an interconnected web of tv shows that are around a universal premise which is the spy world," she told TV WEEK. "This is the first of that global franchise universe."
"I play Abby Conroy who is Kyle Conroy's wife, mother to Hendrix Conroy and a pretty rad human in her own right. But we meet her seven or eight years after the fall of Citadel."
Abby is living a "mundane" life with her family when she and her daughter is kidnapped by Bernard Orlick (Stanley Tucci) when Ashleigh joked: "In my head I just see Stanley Tucci kidnapping me and it's not that terrifying."
Ashleigh filmed Citadel for two years in which she jokingly described it as "a bloody good time," yet there is nothing that can match the "comradery" of Australian actors in Hollywood.
Her stint on local drama Home And Away as Ali Edmonds only lasted roughly three weeks back in 2009, but once you've entered soap opera land, you're in for life!
"I was only on Home And Away for about three weeks but they were welcoming and such beautiful humans," she confessed to TV WEEK.
"I had my first ever kiss on Home And Away, like not ever on-screen kiss like first ever kiss. So everyone was so supportive and I think they all knew so they were really sweet about it.
"But when I see them it's like no time has passed, and I think there is a level of understanding amongst Australians in general who are out here because it does take a lot and you leave a lot of loved ones behind.
"It's a big journey, particularly with COVID a lot of us didn't get back to see our families so there is an unspoken bond and understanding between everyone and comradery."
Even the young actress cannot deny the comfort Australia provides after recently returning home to be with loved ones suffering with illnesses.
"Being back in Australia, being with loved ones which has been really nice to not be working through because its important to head back home," she confessed.
"It was so lovely to be back in Australia and be supported by that environment. "
However, Ashleigh cannot wait to finally explore LA after being so confined due to the coronavirus. But as to what's next? She is now swapping "Game of Thrones fathers" in her new film What Remains Of Us with Kit Harrington.
"I was cast, I think four days after completing Citadel, to play the mother of the girl who I played the mother to in Citadel. And they didn't know we knew each other," she laughed.
