Ever since the sudden retirement of superstar quarterback Andrew Luck in 2019, the Indianapolis Colts have struggled to replace him, with the team bringing in many notable veteran quarterbacks over the last few seasons.
The first notable stop-gap at the quarterback position in the post-Luck era was Philip Rivers, formerly of the then-San Diego Chargers.
Although Rivers had some success under center in Indianapolis, he wasn't the answer and was only a one-year fix.
Some other veteran QB's the Colts have tried include Carson Wentz, Matt Ryan, and Jacoby Brissett.
Now the team has started completely from scratch, with Foles being the latest to be let go of these veteran quarterbacks.
Although Foles will always be remembered for taking over for Wentz and leading the Philadelphia Eagles to a Super Bowl title, the veteran quarterback bounced around the league quite a bit and was never able to replicate the success he had in Philadelphia.
Foles will now become a free agent once again and will look to sign with another team or possibly consider retirement at 34 years old if he has grown tired of going from team to team each year.
As for the Colts, a new era of football begins again in Indianapolis, with the team selecting quarterback Anthony Richardson out of the University of Florida and signing veteran Gardner Minshew.
Indianapolis appears tired of going through past-their-prime quarterbacks every single season and is finally willing to develop a young quarterback and be patient throughout the process.
Minshew will likely be the Week 1 starter in Indianapolis unless Richardson puts on a show in training camp.
