WBA (Regular) Lightweight Champion Gervonta Davis' career could be thrown into disarray very soon.
The undefeated power puncher recently defeated popular lightweight star Ryan Garcia in a blockbuster showdown. The pay-per-view netted a whopping 1.2 million buys, essentially solidifying the star power of both men.
Considering his dominance, many are expecting Davis to make a play for more gold in future fights. However, a major mishap in his personal life could get in the way of his impressive journey in the squared circle.
Back in November 2020, 'Tank' was involved in a hit-and-run incident that left four people severely injured. Earlier this year, Davis pleaded guilty to four traffic offenses. His sentencing is expected to take place later today.
After pleading guilty back in February, Davis had reportedly agreed to a suspended sentence which likely would've spared him having to spend time behind bars. Now, however, it has been revealed that suspended sentence plan has been thrown out by a judge. This is due to one of the four victims of the hit-and-run incident demanding 'Tank' face jail time for his crimes.
Boxing journalist Michael Benson recently took to Twitter to confirm Davis' current situation.
The timing couldn't be worse for the 29-0 'Tank', who confidently asserted that he is the new face of boxing soon after his KO win over 'KingRy'.
Davis has had multiple brushes with the law over the years, including multiple accusations of assault and battery, most recently in December 2022. The December allegations were ultimately dropped, allowing 'Tank' to enter his tune-up fight with Héctor García without issue.
Confirmation of the jail time Davis could be looking at should be clearer later today.
