If you love pickles, then you HAVE to try a pickle back shot. (If you haven't already.) It's simple: You take a shot of whiskey and then chase it with a shot of pickle juice. Somehow the two flavors compliment each other beautifully and it's a scrumptious way to get hella litty. This has been known in the US for a while now. It's popular in both out-of-control chaotic college parties, and chill AF dives. It was allegedly invented in Brooklyn at a bar called 'Bushwick Country Club,' that has since shut down. However, the pickle back hasn't quite gotten the same notoriety abroad as it does in its homeland.
Until recently, when Madeline May, an American woman decided to shot Scotland what they were missing out on.
May went to a local pub in the small town of Dunblane, Scotland. However, before arriving she took a detour to a grocery store to pick up a big 'ole jar of pickles. The pub was filled with local Scots, young and old, and she went around asking if anyone would like to give the pickle back a try. This pub seemed like a good time because many volunteered. She bought everyone a round of Jameson and then poured the pickle juice. To her surprise, everyone enjoyed it! No stuff whiskey nerd in this pub! Even the older pub attendees were having a great time and loving the pickle back!
First you take a shot of Jameson.

Then you take a shot of pickle juice pour right from the jar!
The Scotsman deliberates how he feels about his first pickle back shot.
Success! He loves it. He says in a very heavy Scottish accent, "I'll tell ya what!!" while he shakes his head with approval. And with that, May buys a round of Jameson shots for the bar and provides the pickle juice so every one in the local Scottish pub can enjoy the American pickle back shot. Where shall the pickle back become popular next?
