Quiet market town often named one of UK's best places to live rocked by double stabbing

A quiet town which is often named as one of the best places to live in the UK has been rocked by a double stabbing. Two men sustained serious injuries after being attacked in Saffron Walden, Essex, last night.

Officers from Essex Police received reports of a man having been assaulted at around 7.30pm last night.

When they arrived at the scene in Little Walden Road they also found a second victim.

Both men were taken to nearby hospitals by ambulance suffering from stab wounds.

A police helicopter was scrambled and armed police also attended.

EssexLive reports that one of the victims remains in hospital. Police say his condition is not believed to be life-threatening.

The other victim has now been discharged.

Four men have been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.

Chief Inspector Colin Cox said: "Our officers acted quickly, arresting four men in connection with this incident.

"Enquiries are in the early stages but we do believe that this was an isolated incident and that there is no risk to the wider public."
