Fox News castaway Tucker Carlson plans to make his first public appearance Thursday since abruptly parting ways with the right-wing cable channel last week.
The Daily Caller - a site co-founded by Carlson - reported Wednesday the disgraced pundit will speak at an Alabama fundraiser for the Christian-centric organization Rainbow Omega, benefiting "adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities."
Carlson and Fox News "mutually agreed" it was time for him to leave the network after a motherlode of sexist and racist exchanges between the 53-year-old prime-time host and his associates were unearthed during the discovery process of a lawsuit filed by Dominion Voting Systems. Shortly before parting ways with Carlson, Fox News paid Dominion a whopping $787.5 million for lies the network broadcast about the election technologies company.
Carlson's only statement since parting ways with Fox News has been a low-resolution video where he promised to return in some fashion to discuss topics including "demographic change."
Watchdog group Media Matters for America, for which Carlson has expressed contempt, has criticized his particular line of rhetoric as "dog-whistle" racism. That group has also criticized Carlson for undermining people with disabilities.
Yet, in its mission statement, Rainbow Omega says it believes "in the sanctity, dignity and worth of each person."
Tickets for Carlson's 7 p.m. Rainbow Omega appearance price between $50 and $125.
Current Fox News personalities have made do in the 8 p.m. ET time slot Carlson occupied for more than six years. At this time, the network's long-term plan for that coveted hour is unclear.
