Pierce Brosnan turned to creating art after the tragic deaths of both his wife and daughter, using it as a way of coping with his grief.

The James Bond actor, 69, suffered from the death of his first wife Cassandra in 1991 to ovarian cancer.

The pair had been married for 11 years, and Pierce adopted her daughter Charlotte, who died of the same disease in 2013, aged 42.

As well as being a renowned actor, Pierce is also actually an artist - something which Being Human star Russell Tovey explored on his podcast, Talk Art.

Appearing on Wednesday's Good Morning Britain with Martin Lewis and Susanna Reid, Russell said: 'James Bond makes art.

'He started off as an artist, he then went into acting.

'But throughout his whole career he held a studio next to the studios where he was filming, so he'd have like a fight sequence, a stunt scene, and then he would go off and start painting.'

Russell went on to explain: 'He came to painting because he had some trauma and tragedy in his life.

'His wife died, then his daughter died, and he turned to art as a way to express those anxieties and pain and he painted.

'And his paintings are incredible!'

Pierce opened up about Charlotte and Cassandra's deaths from the 'wretched' disease in 2014 for a Stand Up To Cancer special.

He said: 'To watch someone you love have his or her life eaten away bit by bit by this insidious disease, that kind of sorrow becomes an indelible part of your psyche.

'I held the generous, strong, beautiful hand of my first wife Cassie as ovarian cancer took her life much too soon.'

The actor added: 'And just last year [2013], I held the hand of my funny, wonderful daughter Charlotte before she too died from this wretched, inherited disease.'

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV1.
