Paul Heckingbottom is aiming to break a Sheffield United record that may offer encouragement to Reading FC fans ahead of the Blades' midweek clash against Huddersfield Town.

Reading's relegation fate may be sealed this Thursday if Neil Warnock's Terriers manage to claim at least a point against already promoted Sheffield United at the John Smith's Stadium on Thursday.

Yakou Meite's stoppage-time equaliser in a 1-1 draw against Wigan Athletic at the Select Car Leasing Stadium at the weekend put relegation on hold for the Royals, even though Huddersfield and Rotherham United picked up wins in the days that followed against Cardiff City and Middlesbrough respectively.

Rotherham are now safe. As for Huddersfield, if they fail to pick up any points against Sheffield United in midweek then the final day clash against Reading in Yorkshire will decide who will be the last club to be relegated to League One for next season.

With Sheffield United already securing promotion, they do not have as much as Huddersfield on the line for the midweek clash. However, Heckingbottom is setting his side a couple of challenges before the season is over.

At present, the Blades have 88 points from 44 matches and one more win would see them break the club's record Championship points tally of 90 set in the 2005/06 campaign, with the club finishing second in the league that year, managed by none other than Warnock himself.

Heckingbottom has already managed to break a club record for most wins in a single season in the second-tier, with the Blades currently on 27 victories so far. However, a win against Huddersfield on Thursday would see them go level with champions Burnley on 28 wins ahead of the final day.

"A couple more wins and we can be the best Sheffield United team in terms of points we have had in the Championship, of course we can," said Heckingbottom, as reported by Yorkshire Live. "It's a different challenge in itself.

"We are one win behind Burnley, can we get the most wins? There are always things you can use to push and shove. What we have got now is someone on our coat-tails. We will prepare the same and work just as hard to win every game. We have to, we have a duty to the league."
