Alyssa Farah Griffin was put firmly back in her place on today's episode of The View after she tried to move along a segment - a task that's nearly always carried out by longtime moderator Whoopi Goldberg.

During a discussion about the 2023 Met Gala and the controversial theme of Karl Lagerfeld, the late Chanel designer accused of racism and homophobia, Griffin seemed to forget she was the newest at the table. The former Trump staffer, who joined The View as a permanent co-host last fall, tried to shift the show along to a new topic, stepping beyond her usual duties at the table.

"Basically every major fashion house has some kind of problematic past," Griffin began. "I tend to look at like, what advancements have they made now to try to right those wrongs?"

After mentioning that she won't buy Balenciaga because of the brand's ad campaign that featured children posing with bondage gear, Griffin continued, "I do think a lot of efforts have been made to kind of move forward," before trying to "move forward" the rest of the Hot Topics chat.

"But on a lighter note, can I tell you about my favorite looks?" she asked.

Goldberg interjected before Griffin could carry on, saying, "Wait, wait, wait. Before you move us on, let's make sure that we've exhausted this conversation."

She then shared her own take on supporting designers like Lagerfeld: "You have to make a decision based on where you're at and how you feel," Goldberg said. "I love a lot of Karl's work because he was not just a fashion designer. He was and architect, he was an artist, he was a photographer.

She continued, "I want to hate this, but I don't. I can hate what he stood for, though I do believe he tried to make changes based on the little I know about him. I don't know because I didn't spend any time with him," before joking, "I was a little too chubby for him."

After the panel wrapped up their conversation on Lagerfeld and Goldberg was satisfied with the debate, she was the one to officially move the segment along, pointedly saying, "But now," as Griffin, humbled, laughed and said, "Sorry, I jumped the gun there."

Goldberg assured her, "It's okay. I got you, I caught you."

The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
