A black teenage boy who was shot in the head after knocking on the wrong door is on the road to recovery but suffers from often debilitating headaches.

Ralph Yarl, 16, has been improving since he was shot twice while accidentally trying to pick up his twin younger brothers from the wrong address on April 13.

His aunt Dr Faith Spoonmore in an updated posted on Instagram on Saturday wrote that 'Ralph is currently experiencing many intense headaches, which can sometimes be debilitating'.

'However, he is a fighter and often does not complain,' Spoonmore wrote.

Ralph is 'getting better every day' and 'has more good days vs bad days', she wrote.

She added that he hopes to get clearance to once again play bass clarinet.

'Thank you so much for the love, prayers, and support,' Spoonmore concluded. 'We appreciate you more than you know.'

Ralph, an honors student and top musician at Staley High School in Missouri, was shot once in the head and once in the right arm by a Kansas City homeowner.

A GoFundMe page for Ralph had raised more than $3.4million as of Monday evening. The last update to the fundraiser stated: 'Ralph is currently at home with the family. He can ambulate and communicate. A true miracle considering what he survived. Each day is different. He has a long road ahead. However, we are very thankful that he is still here with us.'

Ralph's lawyer Lee Merritt on April 19 tweeted that he was 'home and recovering', and shared a photo of him and the teen relaxing in a backyard.

'How the bullet in his head did not cause more extensive damage is truly a miracle,' Merritt said at the time.

The homeowner, 84-year-old Andrew Lester, has been arrested and charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action.
