Tottenham Hotspur summer signing Richarlison is excelling under Antonio Conte's guidance, according to former BBC pundit Noel Whelan.

Having made brief cameos off the bench in his first four Premier League games for the Lilywhites, the Brazil international was later included in the Italian's starting XI against Fulham, in which he impressively produced an assist as he played the full 90 minutes.

Just four days later, the 25-year-old was subsequently involved in Spurs' Champions League clash against Marseille, in which he emphatically netted two goals and once again saw out the full 90 minutes, capping off a fine week in Conte's starting XI.

Whelan, who used to work as a pundit for BBC Radio Leeds, has lavished praise on Richarlison for his fantastic start to life at Hotspur Way.

Speaking to Football Insider about the Brazil forward, the 47-year-old claimed: "When you've got that amount of talent who can play either side on the wing or through the middle as a number nine, you've given yourself more options.

"We know they've got a fantastic front three already but signing him, knowing you're in the Champions League, knowing you want to fight domestically in the Premier League and in the cups, this looks like a really good signing.

"At £60million, it looks like a real good signing by Tottenham. He's a really good player.

"The only criticism was the way that he played the game at times. He's a big strong boy and looked a bit petulant at times.

"But it looks like Conte's getting the best out of him. He looks like he needed a strong manager to get the best out of him."

Despite playing in an underperforming Everton side, Richarlison still managed to accumulate brilliant underlying statistics in addition to being the Toffees' top scorer last season.

As per FBRef, compared with positional peers across Europe's top five leagues over the past year, the Brazilian ranked in the top 2% for blocks, the top 5% for tackles and interceptions and the top 7% for pressures, showing that he is not averse to putting in the hard graft out of possession.

Having amassed 48 goals in 178 Premier League appearances playing predominantly as a winger, Richarlison clearly has the ability to fulfil an illustrious career with Conte at Spurs.

Therefore, the 25-year-old can expect to receive more game-time based on his recent performances in particular.
