Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II on September 8, millions have been paying their respects from around the world, from members of the public to world leaders.

Andrew Neil has been doing the same and is now hosting a documentary on the future of the monarchy under King Charles III and beyond.

On Channel 4, Andrew Neil: Britain After the Queen, will explore how the nation will look and feel after the death of the Monarch.

Andrew's journalistic career took a turn in 2021, when he launched the highly anticipated broadcaster GB News, following his exit from the BBC.

However, just months into the channel's launch, he confirmed he was quitting the organisation.

On September 25, 2020, Neil announced his exit from the BBC to become chairman of GB News.

The broadcaster premiered in June 2021, and just eight months after the launch, Andrew Neil quit his position there despite helping found the channel.

On September 13 he tweeted: "It's official: I have resigned as Chairman and Lead Presenter of GB News."

In a statement that followed his departure, he said: "I am sorry to go but I have concluded it's time to reduce my commitments on a number of fronts.

"Over the summer I've had time to reflect on my extensive portfolio of interests and decided it was time to cut back."

He initially wished the channel well after his exit, but during a conversation on the BBC's Question Time, a revealed there was more going on behind the scenes.

Andrew described it as "the worst eight months of my entire life," adding that GB News was "going in was not the direction that I had outlined, it was not the direction that I had envisaged for the channel."

He continued: "More and more differences emerged between me and the other senior managers and the board of GB News.

"Rather than these differences narrowing, they got wider and wider and I felt it was best that if that's the route they wanted to take then that's up to them, it's their money."

He also compared the channel to the US's Fox News, saying he didn't want GB News to become the UK's equivalent broadcaster.

The presenter explained: "Fox deals in untruths, it deals in conspiracy theories and it deals in fake news.

"That's not my kind of journalism and I would never have set out to do that."

"I had always made it clear that it wouldn't be a British Fox News and I think you could do something different without going anywhere near Fox."

In the months after leaving GB News, Andrew Neil stepped away from mainstream broadcasting.

Instead, he has been working with The Spectator as a writer and journalist.

However, back in May he made his return to broadcasting with Channel 4, launching a 10-part live Sunday night political show.

He continues to produce documentary programming and work as a journalist.
