A Black teenager was fatally shot by St. Louis police late Sunday after allegedly dropping a gun and reaching for it, cops said.
Darryl Ross, 16, died at a hospital after getting shot by two drug enforcement officers shortly after 11:30 p.m., according to police.
The encounter occurred after the officers saw a group of people with firearms outside of a gas station, according to authorities, who say Ross attempted to run away.
Police say Ross tripped, dropped a pistol and reached for it. The two officers - one of whom is white and one of whom is Black - then shot Ross.

The officers arrived at the gas station in an unmarked car and were wearing bulletproof vests reading "POLICE" on both sides.
The incident is now being investigated by the city's Force Investigation Unit, which operates under the circuit attorney through a new initiative that examines use of force and police misconduct claims.
Sunday's shooting happened days after police fatally shot a man, 61, who allegedly charged toward them with a butcher knife last Wednesday. Officers say that shooting occurred at an apartment complex after the man had been evicted.
