We've all been there - rushing our way either to or from the Tube station trying to make that next appointment or work meeting and doing our best to dodge our way through the crowd, while people stand on the wrong side of the escalators.

And as the stress of commuting across London wasn't enough, there's always the inevitable group of 'chuggers' waiting as you enter or exit the station.

Now, we don't mean any disrespect to charity collectors. They are, of course, fulfilling a very important job in raising donations for people and causes in need who rely on them. But as one Londoner pointed out and many others agreed, those who loiter outside Tube stations can be a little too aggressive.

Posting on Reddit, one Londoner wrote: "On my way to work I noticed the Tube station flanked by young blokes armed with clipboards in blue T-shirts with something about knife crime written on the back. Usually if I'm approached by people collecting for charity I just say I'm not interested and that's the end of it.

"On this occasion however I was astonished by how aggressive they were, the first one I walked by started shouting at me 'oh so you don't care about knife crime, walk on then', then another literally stood in front of me and blocked me and said 'boss why don't you care about young people dying'."

Asking for advice, the Londoner added: "I had to barge past him. He then shouted something that sounded like 'd*******'. I'm used to the ones in Oxford Street who you can just say no to and they tend to leave, but these guys are a different breed, what would be the best way to deal with these guys?"

Based on the responses, it seemed like several other Londoners had experienced something similar, and some had some really interesting ways of dealing with these 'aggressive' money collectors. Some of the suggested methods were absolutely brutal.

Responding to the post, one person said: "Got chased by a chugger through Covent Garden once. Like I actually started to jog and he kept following, so I turned around and shouted 'no Kevin, I won't calm down, you slept with my sister!'"

They added: "He was embarrassed by the people looking at him and stopped. Sometimes you have to be weird to them."

Another person responding to the post said: "Absolute pain in the a***. I've found myself slipstreaming other people to avoid them. Once, I even used the step free lift to get up to street level as they hadn't covered the lift area."

Other Londoners came up with alternative suggestions when avoiding them just isn't an option. One said: "I always have the most pissed off, 'I will murder anyone who gets in my way' expression, that they actively avoid me."

"Head down, ignore, move on," said another, while another person commented: "I deliberately run in advance before entering the station or leaving so they don't even try to stop me."

Some people, on the other hand, recommended trying to beat the chuggers at their own game. "Slow down so they engage, then speed up," one advised. "See how far you can drag them from their patch."

Another suggested playing the 'I don't speak English' card, adding that if the chugger looks confused, one can additionally say: "The only phrases I know are that one and this one explaining it".

Meanwhile, another person relying on more primitive instincts once used by human ancestors to scare off an enemy, said: "Sometimes when they are too pushy I just start making weird noises. That normally creeps them out."
