The flurry of summer transfers may be over - free agents aside - but there is little time to rest as clubs eye up their plans for future windows.
Reading FC signed as many as 11 new players over the past few months to bolster the squad for 2022/23. It followed some big-name exits, which included John Swift and Andy Rinomhota.
Focus will already be turning to the January window and what the club can do, while head of football operations Mark Bowen and his recruitment team will also be drawing up plans for next summer.

One area in need of attention is contracts - an area Royals have not been particularly strong at in recent seasons. Stars such as Swift, Omar Richards and Michael Olise have either left on frees or for fees far less than hoped for.
Protecting players' values will be crucial over the next year and with as many as nine senior players under contract at Reading having deals that expire next June, expect talks to be starting soon about some of their deals.
Here is every senior squad member and their contract status, with deals expiring at the end of June in the given year.
