Nine audiobooks perfect for fall road trips.

Fall road trips are my favorite. I love having the windows down with a cool breeze blowing through the car. I love seeing the vibrant colors of the leaves as they explode into color. And I love listening to a good audio book (or two, or five) as I enjoy the scenery and smell of freshly fallen leaves. (And don't forget the snacks!) If you are planning a fall road trip, here are nine of my favorites.

I taught fourth and fifth grade for over 8 years. One of my favorite things about that level was the books we read and discussed. I loved listening to my favorites and reliving the students' excitement as we made our way through them. My favorites are:

Anything by Roald Dahl but especially Matilda. It is available on Audible.com  and is narrated by Kate Winslet. Who can resist this charming tale of a magical girl who bonds with her teacher? Publisher: Listening Library.

Madeleine L'Engle is my all-time favorite author. A Wrinkle in Time is probably her most well known book and  one of her best, in my opinion. An exciting tale of time travel and mystery. Publisher: Listening Library.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is coming out as a movie at the end of September. I always insist on finishing a book before I see the movie, so you know this is going on my personal listening list. Publisher: Random House Audio.

I read a lot of the classics in high school and college and am ashamed to say I've forgotten a lot of them. A fall road trip is the perfect time to refresh my familiarity with these great works.

To Kill a Mockingbird is one of those books that everyone should read and then read again. In this case, you can listen to Sissy Spacek read it to you. Publisher: HarperAudio.

Ernest Hemingway's A Farewell to Arms is a romance set in World War I and is just intense enough to keep me awake when I've been on the road all day.  Publisher: Simon & Schuster Audio.

Clocking in at over 11 hours, Jane Austin's Pride and Prejudice will keep you going for many, many miles. Narrated by Rosamund  Pike (from Gone Girl fame) the story will whisk you away to the 19th century in no time. Publisher: Audible Studios.

Something about feeling miles of road under my tires makes me feel like anything is possible. Road trips are my favorite time to learn more and reinvent myself and self-improvement books are ideal for inspiration.

The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business will help you identify your habits that you might like to change. And, it will inspire you with tales of how others changed their lives by changing their habits. Publisher: Random House Audio.

Shonda Rhimes is unarguably a one woman powerhouse in the entertainment industry. My DVR is set to record almost all of her shows and any wisdom I can glean from her is priceless. I love that she narrates the audio version of Year of Yes! Publisher: Simon & Schuster Audio.

Jen Sincero's You Are a Badass was recommended to me by a friend and described as a "game changer."  The author narrates her own work and, as you can probably tell from the title, cuts through the usual double talk and gives it to you straight delivered with a healthy side of snark. Publisher: Tantor Audio.

Finished all of your downloaded audio books before your trip was over? You might want to listen to some podcasts.

Enjoy your road trip!
