It was well-known that Queen Elizabeth II had a great love of music and a commitment to the arts throughout her life.

During her historic 70-year-reign?, it was revealed Her Majesty had a particular passion for musical theatre, show tunes and hymns. She grew up in a house filled with music and learnt to play the piano alongside her sister, Princess Margaret, as a child.

In a BBC documentary to celebrate her 90th birthday in 2016, relatives and friends of Britain's longest-serving monarch spoke out about her favourite pieces of music.

"The Queen loves the theatre and musicals like Showboat, Oklahoma! and Annie Get Your Gun," her cousin, Lady Elizabeth Anson, said in Our Queen: 90 Musical Years

"These were the tunes that remained in one's head and were very danceable to. The Queen is a fantastic dancer. She's got great rhythm."

Queen Elizabeth was also said to be extremely fond of ?songs by singer and comedian George Formby, and apparently could sing "all of his songs", according to friend Gyles Brandreth.

?The documentary also unveiled a playlist of her 10 favourite songs.

Along with show tunes and old classics - including one from late wartime singer Dame Vera Lynn - the list featured Cheek to Cheek by Fred Astaire and Sing by Gary Barlow. Sing was co-written with Andrew Lloyd Webber for the Diamond Jubilee Concert, to mark Queen Elizabeth II's 60th year on the throne.

In the documentary, Lady Anson also recalled how the Queen grew up singing and playing parlour games at home with her elder sister.

"We did a lot of singing at Kensington Palace, with Princess Margaret, who was competent enough to be a concert pianist, and my Great Aunt Queen Elizabeth (The Queen Mother) would do anything to break into song," she said.

"Nobody thought it was odd after dinner if we put on a record and all sang Doing the Lambeth Walk, so music has always been part of her life."

In 1946, she was presented with an Honorary Bachelor of Music degree from the University of London.

The Queen's affection for musicals and show tunes was also acknowledged during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations earlier this year.

The Platinum Party at the Palace featured special appearances from Andrew Lloyd Webber and Lin-Manuel Miranda, as well as performances from the casts of other lead musicals.
