Pokemon: Cutest Poison-Type Pokemon

The Pokemon franchise has given fans eight generations worth of Pokemon to catch, train, and love, all of which have designs that range from outstanding to questionable. But among them, Pokemon with cuter designs are definitely popular among fans due to their appearance and their overall charm.

Cute Pokemon exist in every type, but the majority of them belong to either the Normal or Fairy types. But as shocking as it sounds, one type that fans would not expect to have cute Pokemon is the Poison-type. Amidst venomous beasts and poisonous abominations, these Pokemon are surprisingly adorable despite their not-so-adorable typing.

Bug Pokemon, much like Poison-types, tend to get more designs that resemble what they are based on: insects and creepy-crawlies. However, Venonat is a perfect example of being especially cute despite having a design that resembles a flea.

There is no doubt that many see Venonat as a pest, but others may also see it as an adorable puffball Pokemon they want to hug. Its beady red eyes not only serve to make it look even cuter, but they are also useful for seeing at night, especially when it is hunting for prey.

At first glance, Grimer may not seem conventionally cute due to its pure Poison-typing and its physical composition. According to its Pokedex entry in Pokemon Black & White 2, its body is made out of pure sludge, which would drive away most people almost instantly.

Grimer's cuteness instead lies in its perpetually happy expression as it goes about its business. Though it lurks in the dirtiest places imaginable, one cannot help but find a happy Grimer frolicking about to be somewhat adorable, even if the same can't be said for its natural habitat.

Much like Grimer, Koffing can also be considered cute due to its almost permanent happy expression. This is in stark contrast to its abilities; Koffing is said to be able to create poisonous gases inside its body that are harmful to humans, so cuddling it is definitely out of the question.

Its poisonous gases and typing aside, Koffing is, to many fans, a lovable toxic ball that is as happy as it can be, made even more obvious by in-game features such as Pokemon Amie and Pokemon Refresh. It is only when it evolves into Weezing that it starts to become somewhat miserable.

Gulpin leans toward the more conventionally cute designs seen in the Pokemon series. In this case, its small, round physique, lazy facial expression, and stubby arms serve as a way to endear fans, even those that are typically averse to Poison-type Pokemon

Unlike most Pokemon of its type, Gulpin is somewhat safe to be around since it can only eat things that are the same size as itself. On the other hand, trainers might want to watch out for the gases it expels, according to its Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen Pokedex entry.

Opinions on Trubbish's weird design are awfully polarizing; fans either love it to bits or hate it with a passion. Its Pokedex entry does not do it any favors; it is said that Trubbish's foul odor is fatal to young children.

On a more positive note, there is no denying that Trubbish's perky trash-knot ears are a sight for sore eyes, something that its evolution Garbodor completely lacks. In fact, befriending Trubbish may be in a Pokemon Trainer's best interest, as it is the only way to stop it from producing its horrible stench.

Although it is designated as one of the mysterious Ultra Beasts, there is nothing beastly about Poipole's design, though it somewhat resembles a small, purple alien. Given the codename UB Adhesive, this Ultra Beast is capable of gleefully firing a venomous adhesive in battle.

While most Ultra Beasts have no known connections to humans, Poipole is rather sociable; it is very popular among humans, and it has the ability to understand human speech. Surprisingly, Poipole can learn the move Dragon Pulse, which is necessary for it to evolve into Naganadel.

Skorupi was one of the many baby Pokemon introduced when Pokemon Diamond and Pearl first came out. Just like Trubbish, it may seem odd that a baby scorpion Pokemon would have a more lovable design, but Skorupi manages to pull it off.

While scorpions tend to be scary to most people, Skorupi's small pincers and big eyes give the air of something that would much sooner run away from people instead of attacking them. But beware: true to its typing, its bites are known to infect living things with a lethal poison.

At first glance, Mareanie's appearance may look insignificant or even confusing to some, but others may instead be drawn to its toothy, constantly dazed smile, which becomes somewhat obscure when it evolves into Toxapex. Combine that with its starfish-like tentacles, and this Pokemon looks like a lovable split between a starfish and a sea urchin that is just asking to be hugged.

Though Mareanie looks like an adorable sea creature, its behavior is anything but adorable. This sea-dwelling Pokemon is notorious for hunting Corsola. In particular, Mareanie likes to immobilize Corsola with its poison before feasting on its coral branches, though it has yet to do this to Galarian Corsola.

Like Mareanie, Skrelp is another seafaring Pokemon with poisonous qualities. In fact, it and Dragalge are the only Poison-type Pokemon available in Pokemon X and Y. Though it secretes liquid poison, Skrelp's small fins and long snout give it the appearance of a baby seahorse, similar to the Pokemon Horsea.

Although its name is based on the word kelp, Skrelp is referred to as the Mock Kelp Pokemon, confirming that it is not comprised of actual kelp. However, it uses its resemblance to kelp as a means of camouflage in order to protect itself and attack unsuspecting prey.
