The Prince and Princess of Wales and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have come together to honor Queen Elizabeth II.

Prince William, Prince Harry, Princess Kate, and Duchess Meghan greeted the mourners outside Windsor Castle today, in a surprise appearance following the monarch's death last Thursday. The royal couples visited tributes left by people outside the residence, putting aside private differences to pay tribute to the queen.

A Palace spokesperson tells BAZAAR.com, "The Prince of Wales invited the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to join him and the Princess of Wales earlier."

During the outing, William, Harry, Kate, and Meghan took time to visit an ornate floral tribute, and chatted with several members of the public. After forty minutes of exchanging hugs and sympathies with Britons, the foursome headed back to Windsor Castle.

The public reunion comes two days after Prince William and Prince Harry reunited privately at Balmoral on Thursday, though neither Kate nor Meghan traveled to Scotland at the time. It also comes after King Charles announced William and Kate's new titles as Prince and Princess of Wales, and praised Harry and Meghan in his first speech as the new sovereign of the United Kingdom.

The appearance also comes a few hours after Prince William shared a touching tribute to his grandmother, in which he honored the love and support the late monarch gave to his family.

"My grandmother famously said that grief was the price we pay for love. All of the sadness we will feel in the coming weeks will be testament to the love we felt for our extraordinary Queen. I will honour her memory by supporting my father, The King, in every way I can," the statement read.
